Remembering names, faces & linking them to events is an important leadership trait.

But how does one do that?

I went through several self-help management books and learnt about repeating names when introduced, remembering  the face, attribute it to someone whom you know, look into the eyes when you talk, remember their voice….read and understood all that, but was still struggling to be a master in doing this.

I was in a Leadership training program, where I asked the trainer the same question,

“How can I remember names & faces?”

For that he went up to the stage and wrote a 15 digit random number on the board and asked,

“Can you remember this number & repeat it tomorrow?”

Without hesitation, I said “NO”

His reply was “ I will raise the stakes of the game, I will pay you US $ 1 Million if you remember this number………. Can you do it?”

I hesitated a bit and said “Yes…I can do it”

“There….that is the answer…you need to tell your mind that it is important to remember….your mind is programmed to remember only important things.”

That day, went back home happy that I had found a simple solution to a complex problem.
